This afternoon, in collaboration with the Bladen County Sheriff's Office, our school participated in a lockdown drill. There was NO emergency. This drill provided us the opportunity to practice our lockdown procedures. Again, there was no emergency situation, all students and staff are safe, and the day has proceeded as scheduled. Our students became Nonfiction Detectives in the library today! 🕵️♀️🕵️♂️
Working with partners, students explored nonfiction books to hunt for important text features such as headings, captions, photographs, diagrams, maps, glossaries, and fun facts!
As they discovered each feature, they recorded their findings and discussed how these tools help readers locate information and better understand what they read.
We love seeing our students collaborating, thinking critically, and discovering that nonfiction books are full of fascinating information! 📖✨

Learning Flag Etiquette from Our East Bladen JROTC!
Our students had a special hands-on learning experience thanks to the JROTC students from East Bladen High School!
These outstanding young leaders visited EPS to teach our students the proper procedures for raising, lowering, and folding the American flag.
Students had the opportunity to participate in the process while learning about respect, responsibility, teamwork, and the importance of honoring our nation's flag.
A huge THANK YOU to the East Bladen High School JROTC students and instructors for taking the time to share their knowledge and leadership with our students!

Who knew learning to add three numbers could be so much fun? 🎉
Our students are learning how to add three numbers by finding their "Friends of 10" first! Using a giant ten-frame, colorful plates, and dry-erase boards, students worked together to find number combinations that make 10 before adding the remaining number.
This hands-on activity helped students build number sense, practice mental math strategies, and explain their mathematical thinking. 🧠💡
We love seeing our young mathematicians learning through movement, teamwork, and a little bit of fun!

After learning about these colorful, fantastical creatures from Mexican folk art, students created their own unique animals with movable parts. Then came the real magic! Using stop-motion animation, they brought their creations to life, one picture at a time! 📸
This hands-on project combines art, storytelling, engineering, and technology while encouraging creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.

🎨 Hispanic Heritage Month Meets STEM! 🛠️
As we continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, our students learned about the life of famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo! 🇲🇽
We discovered that after a serious accident, Frida spent much of her recovery confined to bed. But that didn't stop her creativity! She found a way to paint while lying down.
We turned her story into a fun STEM engineering challenge! Using Strawbees, students designed and built their own creative contraptions that would allow our stuffed “animalitos” to paint while lying in bed, just like Frida!
Students had to think like engineers as they planned, built, tested, and adjusted their designs to solve a real-world problem.
